Falsehoods, misstatements, misleading, stretching the truth, mistruths. Please call them what they are — lies, not “alternative facts”. A term made famous by former President Trump’s counselor, Kellyanne Conway. Accept the premise. Everyone lies particularly politicians. They’re masters at it and have many excuses for doing it. They think to themselves, “I am lying to protect the American people?” They’re lying for you. And they do it often. Politicians don’t get bonus points for repeating the same lie.

“I cannot tell a lie” — George Washington. “Yes, I can, I do it all the time” — Typical Politician

There are little lies — “My dog ate my homework” or “It wasn’t me”. There have been some political whoppers. Former President Bill Clinton: “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.” [denying an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky]. Of course, everyone knows Richard Nixon’s “I am not a crook”.

It’s not about the big lies anymore — Unless you are talking about Donald J. Trump. It’s about quantity over quality these days. Politicians’ lies have gotten so bad. News programs keep running tallies and have year-end lists.
