I am grateful for . . . Politics?
Ludicrous Or . . . Not!
No, not kidding. If it weren’t for politics what would there be to talk about for a great number of people? Who would we make fun of? Some people can thank politics for their careers. Where would Tucker Carlson or Sean Hannity be without their skewed political views? Satirists and comedians earn their living making fun of politics and politicians. You might not know the names of political cartoonists [Mike Thompson and Matt Wuerker for example] But their illustrations?
Saturday Night Live has been turning politicians into jokes for more than 50 years! Who remembers Chevy Chase’s clumsy Gerald Ford portrayal? He tried to put a star on top of the Christmas tree and fell over it to the floor? Dana Carvey and the late Phil Hartman take a “joyride”. They portray presidential and vice-presidential candidates Ross Perot and Admiral James Stockdale. Find the video it’s hilarious!
What about the decades of political TV shows and movies? The actors that launched their careers. How many believe Josiah Bartlett [West Wing] and James Marshall [Air Force One] were actual presidents? Not to mention the actors who turned into politicians [Schwarzenegger, Al Franken, Ronald Reagan, and yes Donald Trump]. Sure, anyone can run for public office.
