… as Chief Justice John Roberts’ decision intimates, systemic racism is no longer prevalent in 2023, white applicants still enter the application process with the benefit of 400 years worth of accumulated advantages. They’re more likely to come from families of college graduates, which remains a significant predictor of academic success. With that comes family connections and a greater understanding of how to maneuver the incredibly complex path to higher education, which now begins in elementary school.
