An Open Letter To: Anyone Around Me
HOW DO YOU REALLY FEEL ABOUT POLITICS?
Dear: People Around Me
I can’t talk to you about politics. The one topic I like to write about. I have all these ideas in my head, and I can’t get a second opinion. My family is a definite NO. Some members love certain politicians I like to write about — in a negative light. I envision how that conversation would go. It would end with someone leaving in a huff. We’re civilized, though, there won’t be any bleeding.
My friends? I’ve lost more than kept when conversations went awry. I’ll keep the few I have left out of it.
The people in the office are a mixed bag. Some love certain politicians and their party. Some hate them. It’s best not to bring up the subject at all. I feel that way around everyone I know. Particularly when politics and religion collide. Oh Boy! Today’s social issues are a definite conversation stopper. Walk away to your neutral corners, please. Let’s change the subject.
At work, every so often the time ticks slowly. Especially when you’re trying not to talk to your coworkers. I stare at the tiny clock in the corner of my computer — one hour, two hours, three hours go by. I know STOP. But how? It’s staring me in the face.
